Best Calgary Communities Near the CTrain: Red, Blue and Green Line Guide (2026)

by Justin Warthe

If you commute downtown, work at the University of Calgary, SAIT, Foothills or the South Health Campus, or simply do not want a second car, a home within walking distance of a CTrain station changes your daily life and your resale value. Here are Calgary's best communities on the Red and Blue Lines, station by station, plus the South East communities that will be on the Green Line.

Quick answer: Calgary's CTrain has two operating lines: the Red Line from Tuscany in the NW through downtown to Somerset-Bridlewood in the south, and the Blue Line from 69 Street SW in the west through downtown to Saddletowne in the NE. The Green Line's first phase, from Shepard in the SE to a new Grand Central station downtown, is under construction with opening expected around 2031. The best-value transit communities are on the Blue Line NE (Whitehorn, Rundle, Marlborough, Martindale, Saddle Ridge) and the Red Line south (Shawnessy, Midnapore, Canyon Meadows); the most sought-after are the Red Line NW (Brentwood, Dalhousie, Varsity, Sunnyside) and the Blue Line west (Sunalta, Killarney, Westbrook).

Key takeaways

  • Red Line NW: Tuscany, Crowfoot, Dalhousie, Brentwood, University, Banff Trail, Lions Park, SAIT and Sunnyside stations serve some of the city's most consistently in-demand communities.
  • Red Line south: Stampede, Erlton, 39 Avenue, Chinook, Heritage, Southland, Anderson, Canyon Meadows, Fish Creek-Lacombe, Shawnessy and Somerset-Bridlewood connect established South communities to downtown in 20 to 35 minutes.
  • Blue Line NE: Bridgeland, Zoo, Barlow/Max Bell, Franklin, Marlborough, Rundle, Whitehorn, McKnight-Westwinds, Martindale and Saddletowne run through Calgary's most affordable detached communities (NE detached benchmark $556,600).
  • Blue Line west: Sunalta, Shaganappi Point, Westbrook, 45 Street, Sirocco and 69 Street serve Sunalta, Scarboro, Killarney, Glendale, Westgate, Glamorgan and the West district.
  • Green Line (under construction): Shepard, Douglas Glen, Quarry Park, South Hill, Ogden, Lynnwood/Millican, Highfield, 26 Avenue SE, Ramsay/Inglewood and Grand Central downtown.

Blue Line (NE): Calgary's best transit value

From Bridgeland and the Zoo through Franklin, Marlborough, Rundle, Whitehorn, McKnight-Westwinds and Martindale to Saddletowne, the Blue Line runs through the city's most affordable established detached communities and its newest NE townhome communities. Detached benchmarks in the North East ($556,600) and East ($476,200) are the lowest in Calgary, many homes have legal or legalizable basement suites, and downtown is 20 to 30 minutes by train. For first-time buyers and investors this is the strongest combination of price and transit in the city. See our NE Calgary realtor page and the Bridgeland area page.

Blue Line (West): inner-city living without the downtown price

Sunalta, Scarboro, Killarney, Glendale, Westgate, Glamorgan, Wildwood and Spruce Cliff sit along Sunalta, Shaganappi Point, Westbrook, 45 Street, Sirocco and 69 Street stations. Expect a mix of mid-century bungalows, new infills and condos, with downtown 10 to 20 minutes away.

Green Line (SE): buying ahead of the train

Construction on the Green Line's first phase began in 2025, with 10 stations from Shepard to a new Grand Central station downtown and opening expected around 2031. Communities that will gain stations include Ramsay, Inglewood, Highfield, Lynnwood, Millican, Ogden, Quarry Park and Douglas Glen, with Shepard serving the deep SE (Seton, Cranston, Mahogany, Auburn Bay) by bus and park-and-ride. Transit lines historically lift nearby values once service begins; buying before completion means living with construction and a long wait, so weigh it honestly.
