Living in Crestmont, Calgary: Homes, Schools, Transit and What to Expect
Updated November 2, 2026 · Written by Justin Warthe, Team Lead, The Top Calgary Real Estate Team
Crestmont sits on the hill at Calgary's far western edge, just south of the Trans-Canada Highway and next door to WinSport, with Stoney Trail to the east and Qualico's future phases on the farmland to the west. It is a quiet, almost entirely detached hillside community with about 30% of its land protected as aspen forest and creek bed. Here is what it is like to live there, what homes cost and the trade-offs to weigh before you buy.
Quick answer: Crestmont suits buyers who want a newer detached home, mountain access and a quiet hillside setting, with WinSport next door and the Trans-Canada at the end of the street. The trade-off is that there is no school or store inside the community, so most trips are by car, and a homeowners' association fee funds the hall and rink. The Top Calgary Real Estate Team sells across west Calgary; call or text 403-620-8746 or book a call for a Crestmont evaluation or buyer consultation.
Key takeaways
- Crestmont is almost all detached: 91% of homes are single-detached houses and 9% are row houses, with no apartment buildings, and 95% of households own their home.
- Building came in two waves, 51% of homes from 2001 to 2010 and 36% from 2016 to 2021, so a buyer can choose between an established street and a nearly new one in the same community.
- There is no school inside Crestmont; public designations listed by the community association are Belvedere-Parkway (K to 6), Thomas B. Riley (7 to 9) and Bowness High School.
- A homeowners' association fee funds the Crestmont Residents' Hall, playground, spray park and outdoor rink. Ask for the HOA budget before you write an offer.
Where Crestmont is and how it was built
Crestmont sits on the hill at Calgary's far western edge, just south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Schools
There is no school inside Crestmont. The community association lists Belvedere-Parkway (K to 6), Thomas B. Riley (7 to 9) and Bowness High School (10 to 12) as the public designations. Calgary Catholic designations are listed as Our Lady of the Assumption (K to 9) and St. Francis High School, with French Immersion at École St. Pius X, Madeleine d'Houet and St. Mary's. Calgary Transit school Route 896 serves Crestmont and Valley Ridge for Our Lady of the Assumption.
School designations change; confirm the current designation for any address with the Calgary Board of Education or the Calgary Catholic School District before you buy.
Getting around
Route 108 (Valley Ridge via Paskapoo Slopes) stops in Crestmont on its way to Brentwood CTrain station. Stoney Trail and the Trans-Canada Highway give fast access to the mountains, the ring road and the rest of the city; downtown is roughly 20 to 25 minutes by car outside rush hour.
Parks, recreation and shopping
About 30% of the community is protected natural land, including aspen forest and a creek bed. The Crestmont Residents' Hall grounds have a playground, a summer spray park and a seasonal outdoor rink, all run by the homeowners' association. Canada Olympic Park (WinSport) is next door for skiing, mountain biking and zip-lining. There is no retail in Crestmont; residents drive to Crowfoot Crossing, Market Mall, Signal Hill Centre or Westhills Towne Centre.
The trade-offs
Crestmont is a car community with no school, no store and a single bus route to the LRT. Homeowners' association fees fund the hall and rink, so ask for the HOA budget and bylaws before you write an offer, and check which future phases are planned on the land to the west of any lot you are considering.
