Mission
Living in Mission
Mission is one of Calgary's oldest neighbourhoods. It grew around a Catholic mission founded in the 1870s, became the francophone Village of Rouleauville in 1899 and joined Calgary in 1907. Landmarks such as St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Mary's School (founded in 1885 and the oldest school still operating in Calgary) and the 1885 Rouleau Residence still anchor the community, and French street names have been brought back on local signs.
Today Mission is one of the most walkable addresses in the city. 4 Street SW is lined with restaurants, cafés, galleries and boutiques, the Elbow River pathway runs along the community's edge, and downtown, the Saddledome and Stampede Park are all within walking distance. It suits professionals, downsizers and anyone who wants an urban lifestyle with river valley green space close by.

New infill homes in Mission
Mission is built mostly of condominium and apartment buildings, and new construction here usually means new multi-storey and mixed-use projects rather than detached infills. About 13% of the community's homes were built between 2011 and 2021, and several more mixed-use buildings are planned, so buyers can choose between modern condos with current finishes and character buildings from Mission's early boom years.
Detached houses make up only about 1% of homes in Mission, so redevelopment lots are rare and closely watched by builders. The community has an area redevelopment plan that guides what can be built. If you are a buyer looking for a new build or a builder looking for a site, we can help you track new projects, pre-construction releases and the occasional character home or lot that comes to market. Ask us about off-market and coming-soon homes.

Luxury in Mission is defined by location and views. The most sought-after homes are high-end condominiums and penthouses with views over the Elbow River or the downtown skyline, plus a small number of heritage and newer homes on quiet streets close to the river. Owners get top-tier walkability, river pathways at the door and quick access to downtown offices.
Because so few luxury homes trade in Mission each year, pricing depends heavily on the building, view, floor plan and finish level. Live average and median prices for Mission are shown at the top of this page, and we can prepare a detailed analysis for any property you are considering.
