As one of the oldest communities in Calgary, Bankview has a long and interesting story to tell. Bankview’s story starts with William Nimmons who arrived in Canada in 1863 from England and bought a wool factory, worked with a survey party in 1869, and was even imprisoned at Winnipeg before settling in Calgary. In 1882, William Nimmons bought land in Calgary from the Hudson’s Bay Company to establish a ranch. He operated the 3 D Bar Ranch and opened a sandstone quarry on the present 17th Avenue.
